TECHNICAL MAGAZINE REVIEW

Instructions: Select a technical magazine -- one with a very specific audience (Popular Mechanics, Runner's World, Business Digest, Elevator World, etc. -- DO NOT choose a magazine designed for a general audience such as Time, Newsweek, People, Home & Garden, etc.). Then, write a 1 1/2 to 2 page objective informative review/summary of the entire magazine (not just one article) concerning the magazine's overall focus, subject matter, layout, design, contributors, market, and style. In particular, look at the style and structure of the articles in the magazine. What kinds of articles are they? Who are the authors? What are their backgrounds? What kind of market is the magazine trying to reach? How technical are the articles? What does the writer have to know to get published in the magazine? How professional is the quality of the magazine? Pay particular attention to layout, design, color, graphics, etc. Also, if there is a submission statement in the front of the magazine, what are the editors looking for?
