Lab assignment 1
Lab Assignment on Instruments/Procedures
Describe
each assessment instrument, procedure. State
the diagnostic information which can
be obtained from each. Locate a picture
of the instrument. State the
implications for abnormal findings in relation to speech.
- Electroglottograph or laryngograph
- Spirometer
- Manometer
- Pneumotachograph
- Plethysmograph
- Magnetometer
- CSL
- Nasometer
- Electromyography
- Pressure transducers
- Fiberoptic Endoscope
- Photoglottography or transillumination
- Stroboscope
- Laryngoscope
- Palatography
- Inverse filtering
Lab 2
For each assignment provide a hard copy of the the statistical data.
1. Using Real Time Pitch: find the diadochokenetic rate protocol.
Count the number of /pa/ syllables you can do in one minute.
2. Using Real Time Pitch: do the monotone evaluation on yourself.
3. Motor Speech Profile: Do all the protocols on yourself.
4. On the CSL: record the vowel triangle and find the formants for
each vowel and for the schwa vowel. Compare the formant
frequencies
for each vowel.
5. On the CSL: record ‘My Grandfather”. Provide the voicing
statistics
on yourself.
Lab 3
From the Kay Lab pull up EGTO3.
1. Using the Motor Speech Profile, copy EGTO3’s “ah”. Do the
voice and tremor analysis on her. Provide her statistics.
2. Using the CSL create a spectrogram of her “ah”.
3. Using the CSL copy EGT03’s rainbow passage. Find her voicing
statistics. Discuss your findings in terms of the norms. Describe her
voice
in terms of syllable rate and intonational pattern (perceptual).
4 . Using MDVP and "ah" find the stats on her.
5. How would you describe Ms EGTO3's speech and voice in a
report. In other words, interpret your findings above based on
your acoustical analysis.
Lab 4
In Lab 2, you performed diadochokinetic rates on youreslf. What
would the diadochokinetic rates look like for each of the
disarthrias? On what do you base your answer (What is your source
and what does it say?)
