The Savage family traces back to Savages
who came to England from Normandy with the army of William the Conqueror
in 1066 and settled in Derbyshire.
'Captain' Anthony Savage (abt. 1605-1695)
came from a lineage centered at Elmley Castle in Gloucester County, England
He was first recorded in Virginia living in Gloucester County in 1660
where he was a Commissioner and Sheriff. In 1670, he bought land
on the north side of the Rappahannock River. His will was presented
for probate by Francis Thornton in 1695.
